What to do After a Car Accident
Spring has arrived and more people are hitting the road due to the nicer weather. With more people on the road, you're more likely to get into an auto accident. Many drivers have never been in an auto accident before and when it happens emotions are high and people aren't sure what to do.
If you get into an auto accident you need to file a claim with your auto insurance company and provide as much information about the accident and the other driver involved. If you don't provide enough information to your insurance company it can delay the process of your car getting fixed and paid.
Here are some information on what to gather:
1. Write down date, time, and location of accident.
2. Exchange names, address, phone #, email, insurance carrier, and policy #.
3. See if there's any witnesses that saw the accident and if they can be a witness in case the other driver denies fault (if it's their fault).
4. Take pictures of damages on vehicles involved.
After you gather all the information call your insurance company and the other parties insurance company as soon as possible. Once the claim is filed, you'll get a claim # and a claim insurance representative should contact you within 24 hours to verify the information you provided and to gather additional information.
It's never a good day when you get into a car, but getting the right information can make the claims process much better so you can get back on the road.
